Season 1, Episode 1
revision 2
Dammit! I blew another primary power coupling. Maybe today will be a good day to die. And it had started out so well. My last gig netted me enough to pay off everything, even the old girl.
The House of Adaphas paid me a small fortune to find and return to them the Eye Stone. A family heirloom they said. It looked more like a lump of melted nav shielding to me. It all went down without a hitch until the Cult of Seers found me. They’ve been fighting over the stone for a millennia. The old girl just wasn’t up for a fight so I ran and I ran hard. She may not be a fighter, but she can haul ass.
I was pretty sure I had lost them when it happened. I had pushed her a bit too hard I guess. There was that familiar, acrid smell that filled the cool, manufactured air and invaded my nostrils as the primary power coupling fried, burning off all its casing.
Luckily, if there is such a thing, there was a livable planet only 16 parsecs away. I really didn’t want to get stranded in deep space adrift in a dead ship. So, once again, I pushed her hard with what little power she still had.
Re-entry was rough. This little, blue-green planet in the middle of nowhere had a thick, polluted atmosphere. I made my landing … if you can call it that and found a place to hide where the Cult of Seers would never find me. Here’s the twist … I blended right in with the locals!
