Season 1, Episode 1
revision 2
Hanna had been driving for almost four and a half hours when she pulled into the campground. She didn’t like these long driving days, but she was eager to get to her destination. She had reserved this extended campground stay for three months and she was looking forward to settling down for a while where she could clear her mind and hide.
As she pulled into the entrance, she could already feel her “parking” anxiety building. It wasn’t her fear of parking. She could handle her coach like a pro. It was the inevitable offers of help from the men in the campground who can’t believe that a “girl” can park this big beast without their help. It put her into the uncomfortable situation of having to politely refuse their help.
As she drove toward the office, she got the usual stares as people noticed that it was not only a woman driving, but she was driving a Prevost; probably the most expensive coach in the campground.
After checking in at the office, she was led through the campground to her back-in site that would be her home for the next few months. The work camper who led her in explained the RV connections and then asked if she wanted help backing in. It was standard and appreciated when a work camper offers to help you. The site was one of their deluxe, patio back-ins with a nice wide concrete pad. She told the friendly work camper that she was good and didn’t need any help.
She stepped out of her coach to walk around and scope out her new site before backing in or as she called it “docking.” Within a minute, she was confronted with an offer of help. She smiled, smiling was especially important, and politely declined the offer.
The site was nice and wide with no real obstacles. Under the gaze of many watchers, she slowly started her docking. Using her mirrors and backup camera, she noticed a guy standing behind her, on her campsite, motioning for her to continue backing in. She could feel her blood pressure rising.
She finished backing in with the anonymous dude’s “help” and then thanked him from her driver side window. As she sat there simmering in her irritation, she noticed a young woman across the campground road looking back at her. They made eye contact. The woman smiled with a self-conscious, crooked smile and waved. Hanna returned her smile and waved back.
