So, This Happened!
i was going for a walk with Sky on a cold winter morning. We enjoy early morning walks together talking about life, the future, and where we might eat that night. As we were walking through the resort, we saw something odd up ahead of us.
We walked over to have a look and were aghast to see three just born puppies slowly dying on the cold ground in the middle of the gravel road. We were completely flabbergasted that someone could do that. We guessed that someone’s dog had had puppies and they put them in the middle of the road to die. We were very distraught.
It was freezing outside and the puppies were not moving. We thought they were dead until we saw one take a breath; then another and another. Sky stayed behind to protect them while i ran back to the coach to fetch a small box. i made a comfy bed in the box with a towel and ran back to Sky and the puppies. We carefully put all three puppies in the box and rushed home.
i started researching what we should do to take care of the puppies while Sky started looking for an animal shelter that would take them in. Sky also phoned the resort to ask if they could help.
After reading what to do, i took the box of puppies into the bathroom and covered them with another towel. i put two electric heaters in the bathroom and turned them on high and closed the door. In no time, the bathroom was over 90 degrees. It was like a sauna in there.
After a few minutes, we peaked under the towel and the little buggers were much more active. They were making little squeals and had moved around so that they were all snuggling each other.
Sky had called several animal rescues and none would take the puppies. They told us to take them to a vet. The vets told us we could bring them in, but that we would have to pay for the visit and any care. Also, none of the vets could see them for a few days. Real helpful!
After a while, Sky’s phone rang and it was the resort’s office lady who told us that she had found an animal rescue that would take the puppies. The office lady was a local and had a lot of contacts. We were so stoked. Sky contacted the rescue and we arranged to come to their facility right away. The guy on the phone was very excited about getting the puppies.
We rushed to the rescue which was about an hour away. They were so excited about getting puppies that they were actually waiting for us in the parking lot. The guy who we had talked to on the phone was so excited he repeatedly said, “Yay! Puppies”
He gently took the box from Sky and peaked inside. The puppies were still more active and making little squeals. Suddenly, he scowled at the box and said,
“Uh, these puppies are baby bunnies!”
